Budget battle erupts at Manitoba debate in chamber

The Annual meeting of the Curling Club and a Game and Fish session spark a heated budget debate in the Manitoba legislature. Rossburn Public Cemetery holds its regular meeting electing A. L. Dunecanson as chairman R. N. Hutton as treasurer J. G. Stitt as secretary and members Wm Mitchell J. Wilson Stitt Spencer Taylor R. Young Len Selby. Seasonal caretaking fees stay at 5 for multiple graves and 3 for single or empty plots. Mr. Wm. Brown is caretaker for summer. committee plans tree planting along the new road and urges early contributions. Those who bowl may enter at the O K Cafe by April 14. teams of two couples will be formed.

John R Harrison 1898 1956 Funeral in Sarnia

John R Harrison died March 8 1956 at Sarnia General Hospital born Milverton Ontario January 12 1898. He served in 45th Btn 200th and 78th Grenadiers and fought in France. He was a forest fire ranger and Veterans Guard of Canada, later a Corps Commissioner Indian Health Moose Factory. Funeral Saturday at D J Robb Funeral Home with Legion service. buried Lakeview Cemetery. Survived by widow two sons a sister a brother eleven grandchildren and five stepsons-daughters.

A joint W A and W M S meeting held on Tuesday April 10 with 17 members present. The organ tuning and repair bill passed. A committee was formed to plan the Annex kitchenette. A luncheon was served by Mrs Ethel Langridge Mrs Pat Middlemass Mrs Nancy Andrew and Mrs Netta Smith.

Dave Maxwell heard a Kildeer on Monday and Nick Hrysak first reported wild geese in spring. Tuesday morning he sighted a flight heading north west. Residents long for snow to melt and spring to arrive.

Rossburn Council Minutes Report April Meeting

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met on Saturday April 7 with all members present. Minutes were approved and the financial report adopted. A by law transferring land from Rossburn Game and Fish Association was passed. Tenders for travelling this year were to be called. One Municipal Aid application was approved at five dollars per month. Advertising the motor coach patrol for sale was authorized. Patrol rate set at two dollars fifty cents municipal, outside work at government rate. Delegation from Glen Elmo and Mears discussed postal service. Bills approved and meeting adjourned to May 5.
