Health minister Monique Begin announced increases to Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement with April 1984 changes. The basic OAS rises to 266.28 monthly, GIS maximum up to 267.33, and married couple GIS totals reach 472.39 each, while Spouse's Allowance rises to 472.39.
The Rural Municipality of Silver Creek unveiled a three layer red and white Centennial Cake with 100 candles on Friday March 30 in Angusville. Reeve Mervin Dunn and Councillor John Katchin cut the cake, witnessed by Councillors Wm J Kalyniuk and Peter Rubeniuk. A two minute silence honored pioneers as preparations for a July 13 14 15 centennial celebration were announced, with cake displayed on Main Street between Chuchmuck's Grocery and Kalynuk's Hardware and a replica cake served in RM office basement.
On March 24 at 8 00 P M the Ukrainian Peoples Home Cultural Centre in Rossburn hosted an evening Tea and Entertainment night. Master of Ceremonies Mike Tanasychuk introduced twelve acts featuring the Ukrainian Choir Holoohka Dancers and dulcimers players. Slides of Ukraine were shown by Stan Leschasin and attendees enjoyed the program.
Western Manitoba students will display at the 16th Annual Western Manitoba Science Fair at Brandon University Gymnasium on April 6. Total entries reach 391 with 22 from Rossburn School. awards exceed 5000 dollars across about 30 categories. Entants compete in science Olympics and events from tower building to egg carriage, plus Reach for the Top and microcomputer displays.
Congratulations again this year to the Rossburn 4-H Beef Club which entered two participants, Clarence Schwaluke and Bobby Olyarnyk, in the Beef Market Scramble at the Royal Winter Fair in Brandon last week. They were lucky winners and will return to show a finished market steer at the 1985 Royal Winter Fair. Special recognition goes to last year's scramble winners Terrence Woychyshyn with a purebred Limousin heifer and Todd Young with a Simmental steer, sponsored respectively by Mike Hersack & Sons of Imperial Oil Ltd. and Radio Southern of Manitoba.
