livestock premiums awarded at the Roseburg District Fair September 12 to 16 include horses divided into Thoroughbreds Standard-bred and other classes with winners from Roseburg Oakland Stephens and others. Awards cover drafts coach and Belgian stock plus herd and various age group cattle and calves with multiple firsts and seconds recorded.
The record lists classes across draft horses cattle goats sheep swine poultry and sewing events. Entries include Hinkle Roseburg J H Short Roseburg and Dixonville winners in stallions mares cattle calves and goats with multiple divisions and lot numbers. At a Roseburg meeting the Merchants Protective Association replaces the Roseburg Merchants Association with B W Strong as president and W H Fisher as vice president. Directors include I Wollenberg John Calver J F Barker Jas Newland M F Rice F H Churchill and W H Richardson. Membership aims to curb bad credit and promote local business, with plans to close stores at 6 pm nightly and distribute stock premiums to joining merchants.
