William Pickens of Little Rock Arkansas, Yale pastor and TenEock prize winner in February, is invited to head an Afro American empire on Hayti. N L Musgrove of Sturgis Kentucky launches a movement to seize Hayti for American Blacks, funding an army, warship transport and provisions to capture Port au Prince and place the island under US protection as a republican corporate state. The plan foresees land titles in state ownership, no jails, universal liberty, strict equal rights, and renewed agriculture and industry with schools for all. The movement spreads from the South to limited North participation.
