Drain Suffered Heavy Loss From Noonday Fire

A fire in Drain, a small north Douglas town on the Southern Pacific line, caused about 20000 in damage Saturday afternoon. The Commercial Hotel and Drain Hope, two three story wooden structures, burned along with the Southern Pacific depot and headmaster’s office. Sparks touched the depot and store buildings. most contents were saved. No insured property losses are noted. fire protection was lacking and winds were strong. The post and telegraph lines kept working as crews fought the blaze. The fire left the town without a railroad depot or hotel accommodations but officials expect rebuilding with sturdier structures in time.
