In Olympia Washington on January 27 Samuel H Piles of Seattle was elected United States Senator with 125 votes amid wild scenes. The vote followed a last night deal with Foster Sweeney and Wilson who withdrew. Piles spoke as flags and handkerchiefs waved and waste baskets flew. Judson Irn Stong, age 44, a respected sawmill worker born February 26, 1561 in Flowerfield Michigan, died from injuries after falling from the flame while returning to work.
