Douglas County officers will receive new salaries under Vawter's Mouse Bill. PILES OF SEATTLE ELECTED U S SENATOR

In Olympia Washington on January 27 Samuel H Piles of Seattle was elected United States Senator with 125 votes amid wild scenes. The vote followed a last night deal with Foster Sweeney and Wilson who withdrew. Piles spoke as flags and handkerchiefs waved and waste baskets flew. The arrangement included future Seattle support for Sweeney to succeed Ankeny in four years.

Death of Judson Irn Stong in Myrtle Creek

Judson Irn Stong, age 44, a respected sawmill worker born February 26, 1561 in Flowerfield Michigan, died from injuries after falling from the flame while returning to work. He had worked in Eugene and Anlafo and recently in Myrtle Creek for Johnson Lumber Co and Fisher board mill. Survived by mother sister and two sons. wife predeceased him. Interment held Friday at Anlaoi News.
