Railroad Plans Move Forward at Cottage Grove

At Cottage Grove the new railroad is the sole topic as survey work nears completion. Curveyore workers have been laid off while the survey finishes. Farmers along the route have granted right of way on all properties except two, and the line is proposed to run along the dividing line between those farms with broad agreement among landowners.

First Oil Struck in Malboer Basin Near Baker City

A messenger in Baker City announces the first oil strike in the Malboer Basin from the Newell well near Nampa at 110 feet. The oil tests at 78 percent paraffin, the highest grade yet, sparking excitement. A second well two miles away reached 450 feet and shows potential to pump 25 barrels daily.
