President Roosevelt hosts a New Year reception at the Executive Mansion with equal treatment for all, amid public view of about $800000 White House improvements. The scene recalls John Adams 102 years earlier as renovation work continues and the tower floor remains unfinished.
Monday's train brought F El Stewart from near Eugene Oregon seeking his wife and son. The wife alias Eva Thompson had halted at the Ashland House claiming to await her husband who would ride from the north. The man who came claimed to be her husband and they planned to go to Klamath county but left trunks behind. The wife allegedly maneuvered a divorce with alimony for her daughter and fled with $700, later joined by her son in law. Stewart vows to recover the boy at all hazards.
Report from Medford notes Kansas Governor-Elect Bailey and lieutenant governor-elect, both bachelors, receive thousands of marriage proposals as residents lobby for a governor's mansion mistress. A cheeky circular reply is circulated. The city prides itself on having no Chinese residents within its limits.
News from January 1 1905 reports the Pacifique cable successfully connecting San Francisco and Honolulu after 19 days of testing. Governors and officials express congratulations to President Roosevelt and Hawaii officials mark the milestone as a step toward closer mainland relations.
Mrs Mabel Foster Clark died at 4 30 this morning in Berre Montana. She was born near Pittsburg Pa twenty five years ago to John H Foster, who moved to Butte seventeen years ago. She married William A Clark Jr on June 19 1901, youngest son of Senator W A Clark. Her baby boy born December 2 survived, and the infant won the $1 000 000 prize offered by Senator Clark for the first grandson born. Mrs Clark had been ill since the birth.
Asmaxp Oregon January 2 The Klamath Lake Railroad grading reaches the Cascade Range summit 18 miles from Lairds with two large trestles near Fall Creek. Track laying to 18 mile plateau expected by February and to Pokegama in Klamath County within three months. Over 600 workers, diverse nationalities, wages 1.00 to 2.00 per day, and 18 monthly board. Electric Power Company at Fall Creek employs 70. its 700 foot drop yields 2500 horsepower for mills and mines. Weather favorable.
The Linn county Poultry Show in Albany ran four days ending Saturday night with 181 birds on display. Exhibitors came from Benton Lane Linn Marion and Yamhill counties and judged by George W. Downs of Portland. Albany businessmen sponsored extra prizes alongside standard awards.

A smallpox case is noted after a recent Walterville Lane County dance where an infected woman attended unknowingly. Early reports indicate cases appeared nearby along the McKenzie, but all were light in form and confined to a few individuals.
