Mr and Mrs John Mattauer of Bangs Park reported the loss of their fair haired daughter Marie on Saturday. After a tracing search the girl was found Sunday at Louis Aya's home. She said she left to avoid punishment for a trifling offense.
The Great Central Land Company reports progress in Empire City with Lt Saussure Ane in charge during Chief Engineer Kiower's absence. Freight and grading materials arrive for belt line work from Just Alliance. President Green directs Belt Line operations from Empire with Cole Ward and 50 men assisting.
Michael Connelly and Forrest Crossman, said to be nonunion workers at the Edgerton colliery, were shot from ambush near the water course by strikers. Crossman, badly injured, had his right foot amputated. Connelly is in serious condition.
In Epo Ohio on August 19 the Canadian government directs its homesteading agent to lure 30,000 or more coal strikers and families to form a colony in Canada. Land will be donated and work provided until crops can be grown.
Society buzzes as Consuelo, Duchess of Marlborough, arrives with Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Vanderbilt Jr. in New York. Rumors persist she brings the coronation gown planned for a postponed ceremony.
Mr. Shahan of Kanes, a guest of the Imperial, visits Coos Bay to review a proposed railway project. He is considering large Oregon investments and plans a week or two of inspection, including the Coos Bay line and its prospects.

A pontoon bridge over the Amur river collapsed as a column of soldiers crossed. Five officers and 30 enlisted men died along with 76 Chinese camp followers in the disaster near Vienna on August 19.
M W Aldrich reports extensive preparations for a three day reunion in Olalla this September. He will run a first class restaurant and stand confectioneries with soft drinks on the grounds. A dance platform will be built and dances run the first two nights until midnight and the last night. R Soper and C A Brock will lead the dance program with Appelhoff's orchestra providing music.
