Ashland Oil Plant and Barn Destroyed by Fire

Ashland August 12 The dalting plant of the Southern Oregon Oil Company located on the Alfred place one and a half miles east of town was destroyed by fire the origin of which is a mystery. The large barn of Mr. George M. Wright on adjoining ground also burned with its contents. Loss estimated at 250 dollars for the oil company and 1000 dollars for Wright. no insurance.

Miners Released by Judge in West Virginia Contempt Case

Judge Jackson freed Thomas Haggerty and six other United Mineworkers serving 60 and 90 days for contempt of court in Parkerburg West Virginia. They had filed for release claiming they did not know their actions violated the injunction and promised to obey in the future. Coal-company lawyers opposed the release but it was granted with rearrest if they violate the injunction again.
