First day of autumn falls on September 28 with 100 though unclear text. Trees resist blue skies as leaves begin to drop. Rainy warm weather boosts crops across the region and farmers report strong yields this year.
Twenty years ago John Shimon, a Rolfe high school football tackle, suffered a fractured femur from a hard block in a game at Fort Dodge Lutheran Hospital. Mr and Mrs G C Murray of Sheldon attended the wedding of their nephew Jean Wiegman to Lucile Evergon. James R Spencer of Rolfe completed two months in the army bakery and cooks program at Schofield Barracks. Rev Barold V Bartz was assigned as Rolfe Bradgate preacher by the Northwest Iowa annual conference at Eagle Grove, succeeding O R Buckwalter.

A barn northeast of town burned to the ground Thursday night, with the cause still unknown. Neighbors DeWall Floyd Callon Nielsen Kauffman were among those reported near the scene, raising suspicions of an eight-man involvement.
