Time To Paint Farm Buildings
Agricultural engineer Hy Van Viack of Iowa State College Extension urges painting farm buildings in fall when farm work slows. He notes avoid painting over wet wood, allow drying between coats, and use two to three coats depending on surface. For new wood or unpainted surfaces apply a penetrating primer, a mid-gloss body coat, and a final elastic finishing coat. Estimate paint area to calculate amount needed.
