Private Charles Pritchard was killed instantly when a Ford roadster they rode in flipped after trying to avoid a dog on a road seven miles west of Des Moines. His brother Elias Pritchard was seriously hurt and pinned under the car all night. Both men had enlisted in Company B 168th US S A last summer after a patriotic rally in Van Meter Iowa. Their condition is critical but improving under care.

Edna Potter of Wellman died instantly when her car turned over and pinned her under the seat. The accident occurred as she was driving the vehicle, killing her on the spot with a broken neck. Wilbur Wason, owner of the car, was thrown clear and uninjured. Potter had just celebrated her twenty first birthday the day before.
Balloonist John O Laughlin died after plunging from 2000 feet during an ascent at the county livestock fair. Little is known of his home or family though he once lived in Michigan. No cause for the fall is identified. Women Start New Welfare Circle in Rockwell City. Women organize a 120 member club focused on art literature civics child welfare and home economics with plans to emphasis Red Cross work.
A motor car carrying five young men sped down a Sioux City hill and struck a delivery truck at Tenth Street, then hit the curb. One passenger died instantly, others were injured, with one possibly fatally. The dead is Claude Kinnel, 17. injured include Forrest Olson De los Kevill George Southworth George Merten.
