Copper Sulfate Prevents Mildew on Durable Fabrics
Iowa State College advises homemakers to treat cotton shower curtains awnings and porch canvas with copper sulfate after cleaning. Heat fabrics in soap solution then soak in 3 tablespoons copper sulfate per gallon water for 30 minutes and air dry. The treatment adds mildew resistance for several laundries but leaves a pale blue tint and copper sulfate and cadmium chloride are poisonous if mishandled.
