Public drainage district proposal in Pocahontas County Iowa
On October 19 1954 a petition asked for a drainage district in Powhatan and surrounding lands within Palo Alto and Pocahontas counties. A preliminary report by engineer W C Otto favored establishment with open ditch plans outlined for sections in Tp 93 R 32. A hearing is set for November 22 1955 at 10:00 AM in Pocahontas County to consider the proposal and any damages or objections must be filed in writing by then.

Pocahontas Couple Married in Double Ring Ceremony
Miss Harriet Louise Hudek and Richard L. Walters wed in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Pocahontas in a dawn ceremony October 22 with a Chantilly lace gown, pearl jewelry from Japan, and a cascade bouquet. Attendants included the bride’s brother Danny Hudek as acolyte. The service featured soloist Mrs. Thomas Conrad and hymns.

A double ring ceremony at Sacred Heart church united Kathleen Wagner and Donald Specht. The bride wore rose point lace gown with nylon net and a pearl tiara, carrying white roses. groom wore a medium gray suit. Attendants included Mary Lee Wagner and Juanita Wagner, with Virgil Wagner and Vincent Specht as ushers. After Mass a three course breakfast followed in Holy Name hall with yellow decorations and a three tier cake. The couple will reside in Cherokee after a southern wedding trip.

The Conservation Commission reminds spear fishermen and archers that the 1955 Iowa rough fish spearing season ends at sunset October 31. Few fisher folk found success due to low water and lack of backwater overflows that drive carp buffalo and other rough fish to spawn and feed.

Apple tree bears fruit later in Bagley home yard
The Early Harvest apple tree at the Lloyd Bullock residence in Bagley is maturing fruit later than expected. Last spring it yielded a few select apples and this season it is full of ripe fruit. England first issued postage stamps.
