Corn and bean yields in Pocahontas County surprise despite drought
Pocahontas County extension director BE I Rosenberger reports corn yields from 75 to 80 bushels per acre on several farms with 77 bushels on the lowest 5 acre test plot. Beans ran slightly below expectations while corn exceeded them. Soil moisture at 64 degree soil temp and 3.75 inches moisture in top 5 feet puzzled observers as rainfall timing held yields steady. SCS warns for more rain if 1959 patterns repeat.
