Mrs Lena Johnson mother of Mrs Arnold Barth Alfred Johnson and Mrs Wayne Hendrick died instantly in an auto crash between Emmetsburg and Ruthven. The Johnsons were taken to Palo Alto hospital in Emmetsburg for treatment with injuries not as serious as first reported. Funeral services were held at the Danish Lutheran church in Rolfe Tuesday afternoon with many from the area attending.
The Smith and Keerles families joined Mr and Mrs Will White in West Bend to mark the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Will E White. All children attended from Havelock Cedar Rapids Chicago Oskaloosa West Bend and Ruthven Gilmore City Rolfe and Laurens. A noon dinner and open house drew over 100 guests and gifts included gold glass dinnerware and $50 from Rev W A Dobberstein.
Henry R. Kessler a 28 year old electrician for Central States Electric Co of Cedar Rapids was at work at a substation when he touched a live wire of 18 500 volts. He was knocked from the pole to a box and severely burned his hands. He was rushed to Lutheran hospital Fort Dodge where doctors fear amputation of two fingers and a thumb.
After Sunday morning services at the Methodist church a reception honored Rev. and Mrs. John E. Clifton who arrived from Goldfield. A basket dinner followed with abundant offerings and fellowship. Rev. C. W. Clifton, father of John Clifton, once lived in this place for many years.

Pocahontas County Iowa board met August 27 1937 in regular session. Bids for Drainage District No 58 were rejected after hearing objections. Board adopted resolutions rescinding a beer license and levying an emergency tax of 25000 dollars for 1937. meeting adjourned to September 7 1937. Roy A. Johnson county auditor.
