Powhatan Corn Hog Vote Held In Pocahontas County
A meeting of Powhatan farmers opposed to or in favor of the 1935 corn hog program was held in the Plover school assembly room with 50 attendees. Harry Lund outlined 2,095 contracts covering 93,858 acres. Pocahontas County sealed about 4,000,000 bushels of corn. The group favored continuing the program, with discussions noting lower hog numbers and the goal to keep corn available for domestic use until a world market recovers. The vote on 1935 adjustments and 1936 one contract per farm showed strong support for the plan.
