First graders drift toward Fun With Dick and Jane as they study phonics and enjoy a fall walk for leaves. Second graders begin Friends and Neighbors while Miss Bennett’s class notes homecoming plans and classroom charts.
Kindergarten through fourth grade showcased a zoo themed play in the high school auditorium with cast members named for animal roles. The report also covers time lessons, spelling honorees, and notes on fourth and fifth grade work, homecoming plans, and recent report cards.
An advertisement touts Lydia Pinkham's Compound and Tablets as providing relief for heat waves and nervous distress in middle aged women. Doctors’ tests claim relief rates of 63 and 80 percent respectively, with promises of complete or striking relief and many testimonials.
Students plan Halloween decorations and a junior high float for homecoming while welcoming back Carleen Murray from a broken leg. The Junior High eyes a Buena Vista College Homecoming visit and discusses a skating party after football season. Deanne Savery wins first at the Pre-State Marching Band Contest upholding the DMT baton tradition with plans to compete in the State contest next spring. New band council members are Kenneth Truelsen president Barbaral Fisher Marcia Lehnus Carol Jean Lehnus and Phil Johnson.
County Extension personnel from this district will attend a training session in international affairs at a district meeting in Spencer on October 16. Director E I Rosenberger of Pocahontas will attend. The aim is to equip extension workers to aid local groups in discussions on the international situation.
