Special Election Called for Rolfe Library Bond Plan

The Mayor and Council of Rolfe Iowa on October 6 1953 called a special election for November 3 1953 at Town Hall Rolfe to decide if the town should erect a public library building fund bonds not to exceed 25000 dollars with an annual tax not to exceed three mills to pay the bonds and interest. The polls will be open 8 AM to 8 PM.

Drainage assessment notices issued for District 165 and 167

Notices to owners and occupants in Pocahontas County Iowa that land classifications and benefit apportionments for Drainage Districts 165 and 167 have been filed. Hearings set for November 5 1953 and 1 30 PM with the Board of Supervisors at the Courthouse in Pocahontas Iowa. Objections must be in writing to the County Auditor. Also reports that no work has yet been done but classification is required for future assessments. In Waucoma a mother and son burned when a fryer grease spill from an extension cord incident, both hospitalized.

Drainage District No 166 in Pocahontas County Iowa notifies landowners and incumbrancers including heirs claimants and occupants that a hearing on the report of benefits and expenses is set for November 5 1953 at 11 00 AM before the Board of Supervisors. Objections must be in writing to the County Auditor. The Board may affirm increase or diminish benefits and assessable expenses for each tract and road segment listed.

Fire destroys large corn cob pile at Quaker Oats plant

A massive pile of corn cobs owned by the Quaker Oats Company burned at Radcliffe recently. About 1,700 tons were in the pile when the blaze started and it burned for two days.
