Congress has not addressed 1,200,000 displaced persons under Allied control. A plan would admit 400,000 refugees to the United States if they meet immigration requirements and can work. Refugees, many skilled, could fill labor gaps and contribute to national wealth rather than remain in camps or face coercive labor or death.
Indications show Ford workers will turn down the union pension plan with Ford. U A W leaders had threatened a strike unless it took effect and Henry Ford’s approval was secured. Local results show an 11 to 1 vote against, as workers prefer a higher immediate raise over the pension.

A squad from Pocahontas County visited Ames on Saturday September 20 for a final judging workout ahead of the Dairy Judging Show in Waterloo. In Algona two 20 year old twins were sentenced to five years in Anamosa Reformatory for stealing chickens.
