County to sue state for $20,000 over drained lake funds
The Board of Supervisors of Pocahontas County orders County Attorney Shaw and Hon. F. C. Gilchrist to sue Iowa for 20000 and costs. The sum came from drained Rat and Swan lakes near Laurens and was paid into the state treasury months ago. The state withholds the money claiming no clear title to the land. The law says funds from such drainage must go to the county road fund. Board members fear the executive council is withholding to benefit state projects and political maneuvering ahead of elections.
