Clif ford Swanson chief of the safety department bureau reports grim traffic fatality odds at 25 mph. In urban areas the chance is one in 300, but at the same speed the risk drops to one in 125 under different conditions.
The text notes that at 55 mph in rural areas the fatality chance is about 1 in 30, and at 65 mph it approximates 1 in 15. It emphasizes that higher speed halves survival odds, but acknowledges it does not quantify risks at 75 or 85 mph or include mangled-state survivals.

Miss Julia Schwering 20 and Mrs. William Eral 52 are buried in Pocahontas area cemeteries after funeral rites at Sacred Heart and SS Peter and Paul churches. Schwering died after long illness at home near Pocahontas and Eral died of a heart attack in Funk Nebraska. Survivors include parents four sisters and a brother for Schwering, and husband daughter and parents for Eral. The 11 48 Club held a Friday meeting at Mrs Joseph F Schools with several guests.
A. A. Donald Dale attends a 10 week Navy aviation storekeeper class in Jacksonville Florida after graduating Pocahontas Catholic High School and enlisting in 1957. Sgt Warren Clark, from Chicago army HQ, visits family during 80 day furlough before reporting to Fort Dix and Germany. Local Thanksgiving gatherings include Mr and Mrs John Monkelsen hosting relatives and Mr and Mrs C G James with several guests. Delta Sigma Pi at University of South Dakota greets 17 new student members, James Dyvig among them. Weslaco Texas welcomes a 24 acre fruit farm purchase by Bernard and Mrs Schill with plans to relocate December 15, 1957, from Pocahontas. Schill previously drainage contractor and Pocahontas Dairy owners.
Mrs Glenn Dailey spent three days with daughter Mrs Gilbert Korwes in Pomeroy while Mrs Korwes recovered from flu. Dr E O Loxterkamp attended a county medical meeting in Pocahontas November 21. Weekend and Sunday visits featured local families including the Krischels, the Dailey and Kornes households, and guests from Bradgate Storm Lake Humboldt Wayne Nebraska and Hum boldt. Strathman Studio Pocahontas promotes cameras and supplies.
The Parkinson Post in Conway repairs and polishes a 1926 Chevrolet once used as a chemical truck for a parade. John Muller near Monona escaped with bruises after his overalls clogged a tractor power takeoff, clothes ripped. Leslie Archerd of Clarion marks over 50 years as an attorney. Willis and Missus Penn of North English celebrate 65 years of marriage on November 2.
