Nitrogen Fertilizer Yields Highlight Iowa Field Day Results
A field day report reviewed by County Extension Director E S Rosenberger shows corn yields with various fertilizer treatments. The check plot produced 56 bushels per acre, starter fertilizer raised to 71, 60 pounds of nitrogen plus discing yielded 96, and 120 pounds both nitrogen and phosphorus produced 110. The most efficient treatment was nitrogen alone, with implication for below average farms to use nitrogen to raise yields and improve rotations. Pocahontas County farmers should request Bulletin P-114 Nitrogen Fertilizers for Corn from the county office.
