In Dallas presbyterians oppose tobacco use and pledge potential boycotts against tobacco linked livelihoods. The piece urges universal WWI era contributions to Army Y M C A and Red Cross, discusses Sunday laws, Liberty Bonds, and a June 5 registration for men 21 to 31, stressing personal responsibility and penalties for noncompliance.
The piece notes cut worms harming early corn and jokes about using army worms for a strike. It also mentions talk of a government minimum price for farmers and a maximum price for consumers, warning this could edge toward socialism.

Harrison County Medical association members stand ready to assist the war effort. Dr. Hansen of Logan serves at Fort Des Moines while Dr. Charles Huber is appointed lieutenant in the dental corps. Dr. Heise of Missouri Valley and Dr. Finley of Mondamin have volunteered and await assignment.
The Odebolt American Red Cross chapter is organized with Dr. A F Caldwell as temporary chairman. It will operate under Des Moines headquarters rather than a local chapter and aims to build a 300 member base.
Appanoose county organized its YMCA fund drive and reported over subscriptions in Centerville with a 5 percent increase boosting Centerville's share to 800 dollars. The county total will exceed 2000 dollars in subscriptions.
Osceola county war emergency committee with one member from each school district met at the courthouse. They reviewed crop conditions and prospects. Speakers included Dr. K W Stouder of the Ames extension department Chairman W B Buck of the state committee and Clarence Pickard agricultural agent for the C Q railroad.
