Geese Hunting Closed Five Years In Emmet Palo Alto Areas
Iowa wildlife officials granted a five year hunting ban on all Canada geese in a section of Emmet and Palo Alto counties. Boundaries run from Estherville at Highland 17 to Graettinger then east to county roads near Armstrong and back to Estherville. The area surrounds the Ingham Lake High Lake and W Swan Lake complex where Giant Canada Geese are being established. About 150 Canadas currently inhabit the refuge with 70 young produced in 1966. Most geese are pinioned or wing clipped but some will be allowed to fly as feathers regrow. The Commission aims to re establish native nesting populations on Iowa marshes.
