The Bradgate News reports the senior class presented Synbonnet Jane of Sycamore Lane on May 9 under Supt. Berrier with a large cast. The Lutheran Ladies Aid met at Ruth Madsen's home near Rutland with Lena Madsen and Carrie Buchan assisting. They set plans for the Women's Missionary society rally at Rutland Lutheran church on Friday June 20. Rev. Pallesen spoke on the day's Bible verse. After lunch, hosted by the Madsens, a plant and bulb sale raised about nine dollars.
A major blaze destroyed the Surf ballroom in Clear Lake causing an estimated loss of 250000 dollars. The venue popular with Iowa vacationers across the state was reported to be the scene of the fire.
A Ray Kellogg home in Strawberry Point faced a runaway oil burner that continued after the main switch was flipped. A service man detached the ground wire, stopping the burner and restoring street lights that had been out. Reattaching the ground wire caused lights to go out and the burner to restart. Electricians concluded current for the street lights was entering via the Kellogg ground wire.
In Reinbeck Kentucky evangelist Rev Joe Brookshire preached honesty among men. After the sermon he discovered his new hat had been swapped with an old one, leaving readers to wonder who edged away with the replacement headpiece.
