Kindergarten students recall Dean Bennett bringing a guinea pig to class and learning its care. They thank Miss Simon’s class for a farm visit and describe scrap paper art, reading readiness progress, color-name reading, and math pages on eight and nine. Patrick brought a Punch n Grow carnations kit and daily growth checks hint at spring.
Second grade room shows Easter decor after St Patrick Day school year. Students guard eggs for good spelling in basket. They finish units on stores neighborhoods and transportation. Reading Over a City Bridge and stories both real and make believe.
Farm WB economist Marvin Skadberg predicts more dairy products available to American consumers in 1961 than 1960. He notes dairymen slowed cattle reductions and that hog and beef prices are less favorable, which may affect resource shifts. Also mentions potential rise in fed cattle prices.
Agriculture official Skadberg notes a likely rise in total dairy production this year despite a recent drop in dairy cow numbers from 33 million to about 30 million. Efficiency gains push milk per cow up while production becomes more uniform to match seasonal demand and ease federal price support needs.
Janice Otto of Fort Dodge was a weekend guest in the Don Maassen home. The Cornwell sisters and Joy visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Irving Cornwell and his aunt Mrs. William Cornwell at Estherville hospital. Mrs. George Wilson of Kelly and her father Harry Howard visited Sunday with Mrs. Howard at Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge. Mrs. Wilson helps at home during her mother’s absence.
