Old Landmark Laund ry Building Ties Rolfe History
The back part of the laundry building moved by C B Fuller last week west of Grant lumber yard will be remodeled into a residence. It was the first building erected in Rolfe in 1881 by Alex Barker as a hotel during the construction of the Rolfe House. James Parks moved a small shanty to town during the same era, the first complete building, but Barker’s was the town’s first structure. Barkers hosted many railroad workers with up to eighty five breakfasts a day. The wooden row structure has stood 33 years in Rolfe and the lumber remains in good condition.
