Havelock Girls Return From State Tourney With Honor
Havelock girls basketball team, runners up in the state tourney at Des Moines, returned home to a 37-car caravan and a 506-person crowd. A parade along Main Street honored coach Russ Krall and players, with speeches by Krani, Godfrey, Heusinkveld, and captain Marcella Stoulil. This marked their third state appearance, following 1942 third place and 1941 first-round exit. they beat Clutter in early rounds before losing to Steamboat Rock in the final.

Prize Law Aids Bank Pig Project

The senior Girl Scouts met last Monday at the M. W. Webb home to paste serial stories cartoons and jokes into USO scrapbooks. The books were purchased with money from grease donations and will be sent to USO headquarters for distribution to soldiers.

Rolfe Threatens in Last Period District Game
Rolfe high school club challenged Fort Dodge in the Town H. S. district tourney at Rockwell City last Wednesday night. Fort Dodge led 15-6 after the first quarter and 30-16 at halftime before Rolfe surged in the final period to close the gap. Magnusson topped Fort Dodge with 25 points, while Dorsey added 16 and Chapman 14 for Rolfe.

Report Two Local Boys Missing in Action in Africa
Virgil Pete Trimble and Roy Trimble are reported missing in action in North Africa while serving in the U S Army. Virgil, in service nine months, attended Fort Knox training and Desarenes School prior to joining the army. Roy, 28, inducted April 11, 1941, served at Jefferson Barracks and Camp Claiborne before deployment to North Ireland and then North Africa, with last reports placing him as a night guard near Algiers. Roy’s brother Lee serves with the 2nd Signal Service Battalion in Leesville Louisiana. Both families wait for further word from military authorities.

Small Girl Hit By Car Injured in Rolfe Incident
Clarabve Mickalek, 19, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mickalek, was seriously injured Sunday afternoon when struck by a car driven by Alvin Fowler of Plover. She sustained fractures to multiple limbs and facial injuries, was taken to Fort Dodge Lutheran hospital, and her condition was reported as improving.

Wind Rips Through Pocahontas Fire at Ridetto Ballroom
A wind driven blaze destroyed the Ridetto ballroom east of Havelock at the junction of highways 10 and 17. Firemen from Havelock and Pocahontas fought the flames but wind hampered efforts. 55 000 dollar loss, partly insured. Owner Lloyd Olsen of Havelock was away in Fort Dodge. the building opened August 7 1837 and was built by Dorinne Olsen.

Surfacing Alcan Road Contract Moves Forward
A contractor has a surfacing contract for part of the Alcan highway near Guileana southeast of Fairbanks. Alcan plans to send 140 men in two outfits to Alaska with supervisors A. H. Cunningham and Dick Everds. Iowa firms Ferguson and Deihl and Haynes Construction will assist. crews will live in movable camps with company kitchens.
