Farmers urged to test seed oats under state law

In Pocahontas county farmers are advised to test seed oats for germination as required by Iowa law. The Iowa State College seed laboratories will test any seed sample for 25 cents, helping ensure oats sold for seed meet standards amid damaged cane seed due to weather.

Mrs. E. O. Beacon Dies After Long In Havelock Life

Mrs. E O Beacon longtime Havelock resident died last week at a Chicago daughter's home. The body was brought to Havelock for services at the Methodist church conducted by Rev C L Day. Interment followed in Washington Cemetery. A niece Mrs Chester Speer lives in the community.

Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Meets at President’s Home

The Ladies Auxiliary gathered for the regular monthly meeting at Mrs. Will Smith’s home. Minutes from the previous session were read by secretary Miss Sadie Goodchild and approved. Material was ordered for rehabilitation work and a card party will be sponsored at Legion Hall on Thursday evening Mar 21 with all invited.

A splendid gathering of the Havelock Woman's Club met Wednesday afternoon at Mrs. Fred Hauswirth's home with Mrs. Dale Williams assisting. An excellent lunch was served to close the event.

City Dads Meet in New City Hall

The Have lock city council held its monthly meeting Tuesday evening in the new city hall council room. The building nears completion with shower bath and conveniences funded by local contributions. Edward Price was appointed city marshal and caretaker of the city hall and water plant.

Sunshine Club Mock Wedding Entertains Members And Guests

Sunshine Club members and spouses were hosted by Mr and Mrs Martin Keerls last Tuesday evening. A mock wedding featured Ella Hager man as bride, Mrs Shaffer as groom, and Harry Howard as minister. Mrs Euna Goodchild and Mrs Will E Pirie sang a duet. A frames session and social hour followed before a light luncheon served.

Dr and Mrs Glascock leave for Danbury to run a veterinary practice. The Kill Kare Klub hosts a farewell with games, social hour, and a memorial gift. A splendid meeting of the Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church was held Friday afternoon of last week in the home of Mrs. C. (name incomplete in source). Members discussed ongoing mission work and planned future activities and contributions.

Cole with Mrs Verne Waters and Mrs Eugene Waters assisted hostesses. Mrs Q W Keerles led the lesson study hour. Hostesses served an excellent lunch at the close of a highly enjoyable afternoon.

Library Board Meeting and February Loans

The Library Board met Monday evening in the library room with Mrs. C. L. Day absent. February loan activity totaled 229 books and 52 magazines. The book Wolf by Terhune was removed from the pay shelf and will join Child Life on the regular table for school children. A bake sale held at the library last Saturday netted about $6.00.

Morisick Bass Couple Wed In March Ceremony

Morisick and Bass announce the marriage of Miss Lelia Bass and Fred Morisick on March 7. The bride, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Bert Bass, is skilled in home making arts and will aid her husband on a farm near Silver Lake. The groom is described as a respected Ayrshire farmer.
