Noted Chemist Shriner to Leave Indiana for Iowa

Ralph L. Shriner will depart as head of the Indiana University chemistry department to lead the division of organic chemistry at the University of Iowa starting next September. He is a starred figure in American Men of Science with about 120 articles and active in the American Chemical Society. Shriner is regarded as a premier inorganic chemist in the nation.

Pocahontas lamb show yields strong results for 2 exhibitors

Pocahontas county sent 62 lambs to the Western Lamb Show held February 24 and 25 after weather delays. Bernard McCreery of Garfield township and Donald Larson of Swan Lake township exhibited. low death loss and good care produced profits for both, with Larson saving all 32 lambs. Over 10 years the show has featured about $50,000 worth of lambs.

Mrs Emma Hewlett and Mrs Clau dine Johnson host dinner for Major Arthur Hewlett and daughters of Spencer. He returns from Tokyo where stationed since 1946 and arrives at Fort Lawton before commanding a troop train to Fort Sheridan. He reaches Spencer by February 27. Farm Bureau Meet Highlights Cross Township Program

The Des Moines and Powhatan township Farm Bureaus held a joint meeting at the DMT school on February 28 with new members welcomed by Art DeVaul. The program featured safety talks, grain treatment demonstrations, accordion solos, vocal and dramatic performances, and a concluding movie.

Ma L J Turley led the township group with board matters. Joan Wolf reported a joint Garfield township boys and girls 4-H meeting and noted the recent father daughter banquet.
