Axel Carlson and QO. D. VanHorsen report a Tuesday evening attempted highway robbery on the road from Rolfe near the Pikertown schoolhouse. An automobile pulled alongside, the driver Garten fled as shots were fired, and the assailants fired at least several rounds as the pursued car pulled away.
Twenty six members attended the regular Rebekah order meeting last Thursday. Installation of officers is set for July 13 with District Deputy Lucinda Johnson and Pomeroy staff in attendance. Members are asked to bring a covered dish. A social hour followed the meeting and an excellent lunch was served by several members.
Mesdames J. M. Ralle C. Maltzahn Harold Shimon Harold Crowell Vern Waters Claud Wilson Remus Classen and Pearl Mick attended the County Unit meeting of the Legion Auxiliary in St Columsville Hall. Nominations were filed and a fine program followed by lunch. The next meeting at Rolfe will be Friday July 21 with officer elections.
Beverly Janice Newell was born May 13 1933 and died June 24 aged one month and ten days. Funeral services were held from the grandparents home Rev C L Day officiating with interment in Washington Cemetery. Relatives from distant areas attended.
Diddings day Otis Hs Soaks and others visited Elmer Time home on Wednesday. Several residents from Waterloo and Plover spent the weekend with relatives and friends including Rev J O Wangberg and family in Minneapolis and Miss Anna DeWolf returning from Savannah caring for Miss Mabel Innis.
Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hersom and family of Laurens, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hansen and family of Rolfe, and C. A. Salton of Dickens. The obituary column records their presence at the service.
