Local telephone lines repaired after storm damage with help from lineman H Peterson and volunteers. Community reports include church meeting notes, school building bids, a bus barn setback, and multiple travels and family news across Havelock including births, injuries, and visits to Eagle Grove, Des Moines, and Minnesota.
Storm Lake visitors. Mr and Mrs Eugene Waters celebrate 25th wedding anniversary with church open house at the Methodist from 2 to 6 pm on Sunday June 28. A community shower honored Mrs Charles DeVaul at the Methodist church with 192 guests and a lunch. July 1 rent payments due at local bank. Junior baseball beat Emmetsburg at home. Caleb Shook family returned from Missouri trip. Mrs Gay Stover attended Mother Daughter banquet.

Family ties are highlighted with Nickelson and Martz reunions and a Chicago summer work plan for Robert Nickelson. The Iowa State Department of Health reports more human Brucellosis cases in June than any other month with a sharp rise by mid year and a decline toward September. May through August see the most cases and farm workers show the strongest seasonal pattern during spring calving and farrowing. The illness appears after several weeks of incubation and spreads from infected animals to humans through direct contact.
About 15 4-H boys from Pocahontas County will attend the annual 4-H Short Course at Ames June 23 to 25 with the theme Your Family Your Friend and You. The group departs from the Pocahontas courthouse at 7 30 a.m. June 23. A two pound eight and a half ounce baby was born recently to Mr and Mrs Fred Goldsmith of Manchester. The child arrived prematurely and was placed in an incubator.
