Tiling from Swamp to Drainage A Family Craft Emerges
Roy Simonson recalls early tiling work in swampy land with pot holes and hummocks. He notes rough grades found by seepage, the mix of Irish and Norwegian workers, tools like tiling spades and crumb shovels, and the pride in straight, clean ditches. Mentions 1944 8000 feet tiling by Earl Guess and Lester, and 1947 efforts by Louis Simon. The piece ends with a humorous anecdote about a medical bill from a son-in-law.
