Soybeans need clean ground and firm seedbed
Iowa State College extension expert FE Dyas says a firm weed free seedbed is essential for soybeans. If weeds were not controlled before planting, harrow promptly after germination and drill rather than broadcast. Inoculation boosts nitrogen fixation and yields vary by variety with Manchu at two bushels per acre and Peking around fifty pounds per acre. Planting should occur one to two weeks after corn, or as late as mid June for seed and late June for hay.
