County To Hold Another Baby Health Contest

The Public Health Committee of the County Federation of Womens Clubs will run a baby health contest in eight Pocahontas county towns. Babies aged one to three will be examined and daily score cards sent to Miss Bertha Bowers for tallying. Ribbons awarded to top three in each class at the County Federation meeting in September. Also free baby health clinics planned under the Sheppard-Towner bill and a county milk campaign. Contests scheduled in Rolfe, Pocahontas, Gilmore City, Plover, Havelock, Laurens, Varina, and Fonda across August.

Eagle Grove Takes Cup In Butler Cup Contest

Rolfe and Eagle Grove faced off in the second Butler cup match at Eagle Grove. Eagle Grove matched Rolfe’s twenty six players and performed better after a felt edge of pride. A hospitable crowd and a memorable postgame feed sealed the event as a notable local sports gathering with Dr. E L Hollis posting the low Rolfe score.

Obituary of Edgar M. Wilcox Pioneer of Rolfe Iowa

Edgar M. Wilcox born August 19 1838 in Wayne County Ohio died July 17 1923 in Rolfe Iowa aged nearly 85. He moved with his family to Wisconsin in 1846 and later settled near Exeter Attica before marrying Eliza Campbell on December 1 1870. He lived on a Rolfe farm from 1891 and remained active in church and community. Funeral July 19 in Rolfe with Rev T E Hoon and Rev A H Bryan. buried Clinton cemetery. Survived by wife four children eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren with several out of town relatives attending.

Merle Finn a 15 year old from Rolfe tied the season low score twice last Saturday posting 86. Only Billy Taylor has matched that low score locally this year. Rolfe believes Finn has a coming champion despite it being his first full year at golf.

Rolfe Epworthians Win Morningside Cup at Institute

Rev Hoon reports Rolfe Epworthians at the Epworth League Institute on Okoboji lake won the Morningside College cup for having the largest delegation. The Rolfe group attended 27 members, with heavy schedule of classes, meals, water sports, and addresses. Thirteen bronze medals were awarded in the Fourth Department work with Rolfe recipients among them.
