Plan to Dredge Des Moines River Targets 30 000 Acres
A meeting at Rodman discussed dredging the Des Moines river from Emmetsburg to the Pocahontas county line. It is seen as feasible to reclaim about 30 000 acres by straightening a 17 mile ditch. The river bottom widens to two miles and overflow risks have harmed land value. Bonds cover initial surveying costs and investors anticipate increased land value with protection.
