Mrs. Muriel Wilson shows an unusual garden specimen a cotton plant grown from seed given by Miss Lien a second grade teacher at the end of the school year. The plant now stands about eighteen inches tall with a blossom and several buds in her garden.

Corn Detasselers Halted By Rain In Rolfe Area
Two large detasseling crews for Pioneer and DeKalb in Rolfe started Tuesday with about 25 workers and 60 more in fields south of Pocahontas under Barney Trullinger and M D Anderson. A rain delay sent workers home and they planned to return Thursday morning.

John Reimer Dies of Malaria While Prisoner of War
The John W. Reimer family learned through the Red Cross that their son John Reimer chief metalsmith in aviation and prisoner of war in the Philippines died of malaria. He served in World War I and enlisted again for World War II, was assigned to the Langley aircraft carrier sunk by Japan, and was about 43 years old.

New Livestock Scale Installed at 4-H Fair Grounds
A new 8 by 16 foot livestock scale was installed last week at the 4 H Fair grounds in a concrete lined pit. D W Giffin of Des Moines installed it using his scale experience in northwest Iowa. Plans include building a small shelter over the scale to protect it once arrangements are completed. The scale can accommodate large trucks.

James W. Anderson son of Mrs. R. D. Higgins graduated from a Sioux Falls radio operator mechanics school as one of 10 on the honor roll in the 43rd class since 1942. He will have three weeks training as a communications cadet and serve as instructor before another post. his parents attended the ceremony. Red Cross Plans 301Hour Water Safety Instructor Schools
The American Red Cross will run two one week water safety instructor courses in Iowa Fort Dodge July 26 to 31 and LeMars July 19 to 24. Qualified instructors will train good swimmers to become senior lifeguards and water safety instructors under supervision from a field representative based in St Louis.
