An Iowa Liquor Control Commission representative inspected a room in T. D. Jones Shops building in Rolfe last week, with changes made and lease approved. Decorating is complete and the space is ready for fixtures, but an opening date and staff have not been announced yet. seven or eight applicants have been interviewed in Des Moines.
Rolfe residents witnessed two incidents by Stanley Grady, allegedly spiking pop and resisting an officer, leading to a midnight mayoral trial and a sentence to work off a fine, then departure. Early Sunday, Ed Boles reported a break in at Howland oil station with windows damaged and foodstuffs looted, suggesting a link to recent robberies in nearby homes.
Anton Mackovets, County Administrator, urges relief workers on Pocahontas county projects to seek private employment now. With relief programs winding down, workers are advised to contact the Re-Employment office and County Agent for available private jobs on farms and in industry to maintain living standards and prepare for possible full loss of relief.

Mt Unit Farm Area Evening meeting at the school on July 23. M E Ladies Aid Society Kensington social in church rooms July 24. Worth-White Club meets at Marion Ryens home July 24. Missionary Society hosts a food sale at Shriner’s store July 27. Needle Club gathers at Chas McFadden residence July 31.
About 60 local residents gathered at Rolfe City park for an informal reunion with the Hancher families and connections. A pot luck dinner turned banquet like as visitors from Arizona to Alberta joined in, exchanging memories and stories from years past.
The Rolfe Softball League played a tight opening game as the Pla-Mers edged Dahl's Markets 4 to 3 with Donald Sandvig on the mound and Green lifting a three-bagger for Ro lfe. The second game featured the Chevrolets beating D. M. T. 9 to 8 amid a barrage of errors and extra-base hits. Upcoming games include Laurens, Rutland, Ruthven, Fort Dodge’s Walred’s Clothiers, and Emmetsburg Shamrocks with a 8:30 start time. schedule calls for no double-headers after this week.
A Des Moines Township Farm Bureau unit will meet at the school building on Tuesday evening, July 28. Robertson of the Sioux City Stock Yards Company will speak and moving pictures will be shown. Everyone is invited. Wheat production growth projected at 5 percent, but world wheat supply for 1935 expected to be about 3 percent below 1934.
Rolfe rolls over Fort Dodge Top & Body 9 to 1 as Sennett dominates on the mound, Metzger and Dillon spark multiple runs, while Wells and Jones struggle until Wells relieves. Earlier Rolfe beat Gas & Electric 16 to 3 and later topped Manson All-Stars in a comeback bid at Rolfe City Park.
Pocahontas county joins Iowa with one of 50 road patrolmen to supervise traffic enforce laws and aid in arrests. Kenneth M. Thornberry, Pocahontas high school graduate and athlete, stands about six foot six and could pull a man from a truck cab if needed. Nearly 100 applicants were trained at Camp Dodge before selecting 50. A. J. Haughton remains in reserve.
Miss Marguerite Simonson resumed work at the Kennedy School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines after several weeks at home recovering from an ankle injury. She traveled with L. L. Simonson Axel Anderson Mrs Herbert Halverson and Miss Dora Simonson.
Harvest began with disappointing results as oats failed to fill and dried up due to rust heat and heavy dews. Wheat also underwhelming, though not a total loss, with market prices overestimating prospects. Corn advances two weeks behind, despite no rain this week.
Mrs Ernest Fisher has been seriously ill during the past week. Her mother Mrs M A Stowell of Plover has visited a few days this week and her daughter Ellewize is at home caring for her. Oscar Whitney, an old school mate, called Tuesday, and Mr and Mrs Henry Joens were visitors in the Fisher home Sunday evening.
The Excelsior Society of the Presbyterian church held a social afternoon with a patriotic program led by Mrs. Grant Johnson. It featured devotionals, duets, songs, readings, and a history of the flag, including a group lunch served by Group 1 of the D Division chaired by Mrs. J. R. Mac Intire and Mrs. M. Bruce.
The Promotion Club met Thursday with Trinity Lutheran Ladies serving. Attendance sagged due to hot weather, risking future volunteers without guaranteed meals. The evening opened with Happy Birthday to Dr. T. D. Jones, who thanked attendees for 43 years.
Neighbors gathered at Wallace W. Markin's home northeast of Rolfe to harvest the oat crop. Karl Chambers provided the tractor and Simon Simonson the binder. Markin has been ill, and the act eased a burden, showing strong neighborly spirit in the community.
Rural carriers from Pocahontas county gathered at Gar Mac Lodge in Rolfe City Park Monday evening for a 7:00 PM pot luck dinner. Attendees came from Gilmore Pocahontas Fonda and Rolfe with Postmaster Knoll and Myrtle Hammond among the guests. The 16 members enjoyed a social evening and a pleasant program followed by lunch.
A large beauty contest sponsored by RoIfe business men at the Ritz Theatre is set for Friday July 26 with 24 contestants from RoIfe firms. Prizes include a silver loving cup, flower bouquets, portraits, and vanity sets. Five out of town judges will select Miss RoIfe 1945, with a talking picture program and two stage appearances.
