Thomas Dickey, once of Ashton Iowa, died after a tractor he borrowed to recover his car overturned in a muddy field. The incident occurred last week as he attempted to pull the car back onto the road. Soil researchers cited by USDA note that removing only soybean seeds returns over half the plant’s nitrogen to the soil.
The Iowa State Tax Commission announces an examination for the Deputy County Assessor positions in Pocahontas County Iowa. The exam will be held at the Pocahontas Courthouse at 9 00 A M on Wednesday September 3 1947 applicants must file by August 28 1947 and meet residency and voter eligibility requirements. In probate case 3188 the District Court of Iowa Pocahontas County appointed LeRoy Nelson as Administrator of the estate of Joseph McEwen deceased. Creditors must present claims and debtors pay the administrator as required by law. dated July 7, 1947.

Under amendments to the Iowa Old Age and Survivor Insurance Law any one who has served in the public for 10 years prior to July, and has attained age 65, may retire and qualify for benefits after July 1, 1947. The wife of an employee aged 65 may also qualify for benefits amounting to one half of her husband's. Residents may apply by contacting Clare Wolfe, traveling representative of the State Employment Service, at Pocahontas courthouse assembly room on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mr Wolfe will assist with applications and required forms.
A youth near Mt. Pleasant triggered a spray rig accidently, coating a car owned by Robert Davey and his wife Mrs. Davey with red barn paint while the couple stood nearby. The incident occurred near a paint spraying machine last week.
