A crowded list of local visits and events from Plover and nearby towns recounts family dinners, birthday gatherings, and church activities. Strong of Rolfe attended the funeral at the Presbyterian church in West Bend on Thursday, June 28. The bulletin lists many local residents and visitors sharing travels, camps, and family gatherings across Iowa and nearby states, with notes on church events, synod meetings, and Sunday services.
The Board of Directors of Plover Consolidated School District Pocahontas County Iowa will meet July 28 1956 at 8 PM at the Schoolhouse. County Extension Director E. I. Rosenberger urges farmers to plant legume seed crops in dry years and emphasizes insect control as crucial for seed yields. He advises spraying between now and the pre bloom stage with one pound of DDT per acre.
A lightning fire destroyed a $6,000 dairy barn on the George Marrell farm two miles west of Osage. The report notes spray practices for crops and bee protection during seed production, advising avoiding bloom and early application for better results.
Plover Iowa council met in regular session at 8 p.m. with Mayor W J Pollock and councilmen present. Absent A M Berge son. Minutes of prior meeting read and approved. Motion by Jones seconded by Hosier to approve listed bills including power company posts junk yard and state sales tax for 2nd quarter.
The Rolfe council motion passed with five aye votes, setting a 1957 budget package totaling 2400 with 20 mills. Expenditures include General Fund 360, Street 240, Public Safety 960, Municipal Enterprise 240, Utilities 600. The clerk was ordered to publish in The Rolfe Arrow and a hearing date set for August 6, 1956. Water rates deferred to next regular meeting. An election to approve a joint Fire department with Plover and Powhatan Twp was discussed. James Hudson to draft an agreement before the election. Adjournment followed.
