New Corn Insect Seen In Northwestern Iowa
An introduced striped corn borer, Luperia Stipata Morr, is found in Emmet County fields damaging low areas and oats sod. Iowa State entomologist Geo C. Decker notes it is native but recently noticed, with root feeding inside the stalks and leaf wilting signaling infestation. He urges fall burning of fence rows and plowing oat stubble to curb future outbreaks. About fifty specimens observed on several farms.

Pocahontas Worker Sentenced for Embezzlement
Earl Davis former employee of Pocahontas Rendering Works received a five year term at Anamosa for embezzling hides and hogs tied to Otto Hough of Albert City. Davis confessed and was paroled to the sheriff. Hough faces grand jury on receiving stolen property. County Attorney Harris led the investigation. Davis resided in Pocahontas with his wife and two children.

New spud vine yields tubers on the vine
Mr Shaw sent to The Arrow a potato vine that grows tubers along the vine itself. The spuds form well and attach at the nodes. If further work yields a harvestable potato on the plant, it could save labor compared with digging traditional potatoes.

An eight day event planned for August 24 to 31 will occupy two large buildings at the Iowa State Fair. Central States Electric Company announces the installation of an additional 600 horsepower Worthington engine at its Armstrong plant costing 60000 dollars.
