M R Soth buys the Rolfe Arrow taking possession July 1 and begins his editorship in the first issue under his leadership. The Sawyer couple express gratitude for local support as Rolfe residents celebrate civic progress and community activities.
Editors debate Roosevelt and LaFollette backed broadening federal income tax bases reducing exemptions for singles and couples to bring in millions. They warn voters in 1936 election limit new levies, while praising corn sealing loans but noting risks of welfare for the rich and debt growth, drawing lessons from cotton programs.
The Leo Bowlds family of Gilbert near Ames had baked potatoes for a meal when one potato supposedly exploded, shattering into pieces. The incident caused a shock but no harm. Nearby Warren County plans a courthouse dedication with a whisker derby to promote centennial celebrations.
Fletcher Hunt of Adair reports a large copper nugget found on a farm northwest of Adair. The 94 pound tro yweight artifact measures 10 inches by 7 inches by 5 inches and Ames geologists note it as one of the largest they have seen.

Plover Paragraphs lists church events at Plover Presbyterian and Methodist groups with Sunday School at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services, ice cream social planned for July 8, and several visits and gatherings around town. Families from Rolfe Gilmore City Mallard and Laurens are noted visiting. The Methodist Aid held a birthday party with a monthly themed lunch.
Fort Dodge and Plover residents attended reunions and church meetings. Families such as Forsythe, Rathwell, and Overrocker visited relatives. Rev. Walter Rothwell and Mrs. Fitzgerald attended ministers’ gatherings. local construction work, picnics, and Royal Neighbors activities were noted along with several weekend trips to Granville and Okoboji.
The national radio program on agricultural problems will feature five state AAA committeemen, including Pocahontas county chair Harry L. Lund, discussing farm relief during the National Farm and Home hour on July 11. Elmer F. Kruse will represent the north central region from Ohio. The Washington broadcast follows the July 10–12 national AAA conference where 1940 program suggestions will be presented.
