Christmas Memories From the 1918 Flu Year
A reminiscence recalls a 1918 Christmas when a small community shared gifts and a program despite the flu epidemic. Elsa hosted neighbors, parents, and children at a large home with a piano, coffee, chocolates, pastries, and homemade candy. The piece then shifts to family memories of a farm in Pocahontas County, past and present, graves in Clinton Gar fields Cemetery, and reflections on faith, mortality, and a hoped reunion in heaven.
