Posture Training School Held for Pocahontas 4-H Girls
Eighteen 4-H club girls and teachers from Pocahontas county attend the fifth annual district posture training school in Clarion on January 30. Max Naylor says the all day event features Ella Gardner from the Federal Extension Service and a state 4-H representative with seven district schools planned. The theme Measuring Me focuses on individual self measurement and recreation as aids to mental health and morals in defense efforts.

Livermore Team Beats Rolfe 29-28
Livermore edged Rolfe 29-28 in a Tuesday basketball clash. Rolfe rallied from a 20-9 halftime deficit to outscore Livermore 19-9 in the second half, but fell short. Livermore, a strong local squad, had earlier defeated Humboldt twice, the season’s only Rolfe loss.

Mr and Mrs Donald Henderson of Rembrandt and Miss DiVonna Vaughn toured Charleston South Carolina to visit Hendersons brother Richard in hospital over Christmas. They traveled via Kentucky Tennessee and the Great Smoky Mountains then along the coast to Washington Baltimore and Fort Sumter sighted but not entered. Rolfe Residents Hospitalized After Operations and Injuries
Several Rolfe community members are in Fort Dodge area hospitals recovering. Mrs. O. K. Patterson is improving after a Friday surgical stay at Lutheran. Mrs. Carrie Montri fractured her hip in her Brogotti home and avoided a cast with careful handling. The patient’s daughter Mrs. Bregatti returned home Sunday. George J. Onnen had an appendectomy at Lutheran last Friday. Telmer Sime was admitted to Lutheran with a throat infection. Crawford Kauffman went to Mercy for observation and DeWayne Schott underwent appendectomy at Mercy Friday.

Serious Eye Injury Suffered by Mrs Barrett
Mrs Herbert Barrett sustained a serious injury to her left eye on January 5 while gathering papers for a Boy Scout collection. A belt buckle prong punctured her eye when she bumped a hook in a dark closet, later causing an ulcer to form. Her physician says the eye should recover but will need several more weeks of bandaging.

Northwest District Declamatory Contest in Rolfe
The Northwest District declamatory contest will be held at Rolfe high school auditorium on Wednesday evening January 28 at 745 pm. Winners advance to the state contest at Traer February 6. A declamatory dinner and a business meeting follow the event with Rolfe sending three speakers Mary Margaret Brinkman Alvin Riches and Marian Lund who earned top places in earlier contests.

Million Bushels Sealed In Pocahontas County
Since December 6 sealing began on 1941 corn in Pocahontas County a total of 1 068 912 bushels had been sealed to January 17 on about 971 loans. At 70 cents per bushel the payments on these loans total 748 258 40 dollars. By January 19 the county AAA office had orders from Commodity Credit for shipment of corn from steel bins on a little over 1 000 000 bushels.
