This second class matter notice shows the Rolfe town post office mailing status dated May 14, 1910. It references the 1879 act governing postal classifications and service.
At a D M T meeting the County School Activities Association approved a ten game straight elimination county basketball tournament with a consolation game for third place. First round games begin Friday Feb 14 at 2 pm with semi finals set for 2 pm on Saturday Feb 15 and finals at 9 30 pm.
The Pikertown Local of the Farm Union met at Wilbur Roberts home January 10 with about sixty members. Elmer Simonson was reelected president and Nellie Peterson became secretary replacing Dora Simonson. A county meeting at Pocahontas January 28 was announced. The program included readings by Ida Jane Roberts Evangeline Struthers Ruth Roberts and Mabel Young, followed by community singing and a debate on whether chain stores are a detriment to farmers.
Mrs Henry Stoner remains in Emmetsburg hospital. Benny Jean Ande was taken to Lutheran Hospital Hampton. Grace Hilton is in critical condition. Ed Lehnus is up but not well. Mrs Walter Cook on sick list. Richard Stoner ill with chickenpox. Uncle Jimmy Henderson’s son unchanged. Many residents suffer colds and related ailments this season.
The D M T boys and girls beat local opponents Wednesday and Friday with scores 41-13 for the boys and 24 to 3 for the girls. Plover alumni topped Rolfe 22-19 in a curtain-raiser, while Curlew visitors split results 35-21 girls and 40-25 boys. Dick Bush and Raymond Hanisch return to school after illness.
Local items recount visits from C. E. Hancher in Eagle Grove to see a recovering wife, numerous relatives and friends traveling to Hampton for medical treatment, and a busy schedule of social events. The community plans a Tri County Basketball Tournament and many residents attend church gatherings, surgeries, and family occasions. snow slows traffic and exams close the school week.
Reverend W H Castell leads services at Plover Presbyterian Church with Sunday School and Bible Class at 10:00 a.m. Morning Worship at 11:00 a.m. Christian Endeavor at 6:30 p.m. Evening Worship at 7:30 p.m. Sermon title Cultivating the Lord's Vineyard. Evening program features pictures from Ten Nights in a Bar Room about a drunkard's reform and city experiences.
Prayer Methodist Church notes list morning worship at 10 00 a m and evening worship at 6 30 p m with Epworth League and Junior League meetings. Mrs Chas Seward of Laurens to speak on Home Missionary work. Junior League organized under Miss Thelma Stacey meeting 4 00 p m Sundays. Epworth League led by Millicent Eppelsheimer. Sermon topic False Gods. Indian government bounties led to 5 700 000 snakes killed last year.
