The Rolfe Woman's Club held its regular Friday gathering at Mrs. C L Gunders home. Committees organized a varied program with piano solos readings and a one act play featuring local talent. Members praised continued home talent and community access to these free monthly programs.

Pocahontas County Cow Testing Association Report

The association began its new year December 1 with 29 members testing herds and 13 more seeking vacancies. Dairying grows in the county as many members own silos and legume hay, with several feeding balanced rations. High producers include Robert Rouse with 903 lb milk and 36.7 lb butterfat, and O G Watson with Pat producing 2170 lb milk and 82.5 lb butterfat.

Weather of January Warmth Shatters Records

The past week brought unusually warm, April like weather with temperatures around 60 degrees on some days and minimal frost at night. Snow has nearly vanished, roads are slippery in places, and corn fields show a sloppy condition as husking continues amid mild days and clear nights.

Last Chance to Purchase Government Explosive

One hundred thirty five pounds of war explosive available for distribution in Iowa. Boxes contain fifty pounds of pyrotol each sold for 8.30 per hundred pounds fob Cedar Rapids delivery about February 15. Pyrotol is a high explosive used like dynamite and packed in six ounce cartridges within wooden boxes. It is nearly as safe as dynamite for stump blasting and does comparable work to forty percent dynamite with no poisonous effects. Interested parties should send a check to the County Agent at Pocahontas immediately after reading this notice due to high demand.

Rolfe high school hosts the annual Home Declamatory Contest with four entrants per class selected from twenty five. Oratorical dramatic and humorous performances lead an expected large audience as locals hear students and determine representatives for county and state contests.

County Legion Auxiliary Meeting Set in Havelock

Pocahontas county units of the American Legion Auxiliary are invited to a county meeting in Havelock on Wednesday January 18 from 1 00 to 4 30 p m at Legion Hall. A five cent registration fee will partly defray expenses. An excellent program is planned and the Havelock unit will serve free sandwiches and coffee at the close.

County Agent Bowers Leads Club Efforts Across Pocahontas

Monday events include beef calf drives for 4 H club entrants at Cedar and Dover schools and a Big Four Fair planning session. Calf clubs gain momentum with 45 calves fed countywide, while seed buying meetings draw 2000 notices for a January 16 display at Pocahontas courthouse.

County Seed Meeting Set for January 16 at Pocahontas

Farmers from the county are invited to a seed-buying meeting Monday at 1 PM in the Pocahontas courthouse.
