Plover residents and guests from Pocahontas Rolfe and Humboldt shared visits and New Year activities. Local sports saw top basketball games with Havelock and West Bend, while John Otto earned a three month Iowa State College scholarship for club work.
Nellie Helvig recounts a 7:30 p.m. Rolfe departure for Ames arriving 11:45 p.m. at Iowa State College. She details registration at Agriculture Hall, housing in Oak Lodge, New Year’s Eve banquet at the armory, and a Pageant with torch procession. Rolland Ferguson of Plover spoke. 250 food workers served 100 gallons ice cream 90 gallons sherbet and 48 hams. She promotes joining the 4-H Club and notes gifts of club spirit before returning home.
A corn growers meeting is set for Tuesday January 12 at eight o'clock in the Plover school house with J M Forbes of Jefferson as principal speaker. Also notes on visits, gatherings, and social events involving Plover residents and nearby towns plus a feature on "Hot Corn Sugar" and agriculture commentary.
C W McDonald meat specialist from Ames will hold a demonstration at Plover on Wednesday January 13 at 1 30 pm. He will show cutting canning and curing meat using carcasses slaughtered the day before. The Farm Bureau backs the event to help farmers save costs and defend against rising prices.
The Plover Methodist Church lists Sacrament of the Lord's Supper at morning service led by Pastor W L Patterson with district superintendent Dr Bushnell to preach and lead the First Quarterly Conference. Local sports report: Bradgate Consolidated boys and girls teams visit Plover. girls lose 18 5, boys win 85 21 as Laurens looms Friday.
