Pocahontas County Board met in regular session in the Supervisors Room at the Court House with J M Bush Irman Q O F L Young and G C Johnson present. Claims were audited and allowed including sheriff and county officials, bankers and local merchants. transfers were approved transferring 35000 from Secondary Road Construction Fund to Secondary Road Maintenance Fund.

Population center to shift west after fifty years
The 1950 census is expected to show the U S center of population moving from Indiana to Illinois, driven by western gains especially along the Pacific coast. Census experts estimate a 15 million rise in total U S population since 1940, with 8.845 million west of the old center and 5.536 million east.

County Receives 560 Dollars to Fight Polio
Pocahontas county received 560 pounds in emergency funds to combat infantile paralysis this year. Wesley Lehnus, chairman of the Pocahontas County March of Dimes Campaign, announced today. Funds came from the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and from neighboring counties. The county has recorded five polio cases this year, higher than last year, and Lehnus urges county residents to support the 1949 March of Dimes campaign January 4 through 31.
